Thanks for taking the
time to look at our newsletter. With this format, we believe we can do a better
job of educating you to what is going on in the world of dermatology, as well as
give you some tips on how to best care for your skin. Since I like to eat, I'm
going to review local restaurants that really stand out to me. Please give the
restaurants a try; I will only be reviewing the winners, and will discreetly
avoid the less appetizing establishments. Finally, we can link you to some
articles that will pique your interest, and maybe save a life or two!
AAs a brief introduction to those who may be learning about my practice for the
first time, I have been practicing in the Melbourne area for the last 14 years.
During that time, we have been fortunate to be affiliated with MIMA, one of the
best group practices in the United States. I really love the Space Coast and
could not imagine living anywhere else. I went to medical school in Dayton,
Ohio, interned at the University of Pennsylvania, did my residency at Wilford
Hall Medical Center, the Air Force's flagship hospital, and I worked as an
exchange resident in Paris at the world's oldest hospital dedicated to
dermatologic conditions, Hopital Saint-Louis in Paris, France. I have counted
myself to be very fortunate to be named to one "Best Doctors in America" type
list or another every year for the last nine years, and believe that is largely
due to the great patients who put up with my jokes. So, please enjoy the
newsletter, and if you have suggestions for future newsletters, let us know!

Skin Fact of the Month
Most skin cancers are caused by UVB, which are the "burning" rays that cause
sunburn. The UVB blockers do a terrible job of blocking the UVA rays which are
the "aging" rays. Think B=Burn, A=Aging. The two best sunscreens for blocking
UVA are Mexoryl SX, which is in a limited number of sunscreens, and Parsol 1789,
which is an older, less persistent UVA blocker. Estimates are that Mexoryl SX
continues to block UVA for up to 2 hours, and Parsol 1789 for 30-45 minutes
after application. So, if you want to stay looking younger for a longer time,
block that UVA! |

Monthly Restraunt Review - Lucky Garden 2
(Chinese Cuisine)
I still remember the thought I had when I finisihed my first meal in Lucky
Garden 2. "This is a GREAT restaurant!" I was amazed at the attentive service,
the quality of the food and overall friendly atmosphere, and in the several
years since I have been dining there, I have yet to change my opinion. The food
is still top-notch, the wait staff are always friendly and courteous and the
food is still simply awesome. My initial impressions were validated when LG2 was
named one of the 100 Top Chinese Restaurants in the US in 2006.
The owners, Grace and Jimmy Zhao, are from Szechuan Province and Harbei, China
respectively, and their award-winning head chef is also from Szechuan Province.
That being said, the whole universe of Chinese food is available to you here,
from all the standards such as Peking Duck to General Tso's Chicken to Snow
White Prawns (my wife's favorite) to more exotic fare, such as the traditional
Chinese "hot pot" Sha Guos. They serve both vegetarian and traditional meals.
A simple word to the wait staff will "kick it up a notch" if you prefer spicy
meals, or if you don't like spicy food the chef will tone it down to your
tastes. There are some really phenomenal menu items, such as the Chilean Sea
Bass and the Lamb in Ginger Scallion Sauce, which always impress our visitors
from out of town, and even those of us who have eaten from Singapore to
Sausalito are impressed with the quality of the meals.
Having eaten there more than any other restaurant in my life, it would be
difficult to nail down which one meal is my favorite, but the meal would go
something like this: I would start with either the steamed dumplings or
vegetable spring roll, then graduate to Kung Pao Chicken (I ask them to spice it
up a bit) or Peking Duck, served with steamed brown rice and iced tea. I have
had nearly everything on their menu and would not steer you clear of anything
they serve. They also have a terrific sushi chef who can twist up some great
rolls for you.
The restaurant recently grew, having taken over the vacated space next door, and
now has a full liquor bar and high definition televisions to add the finishing
touch.
This restaurant is my favorite restaurant in Melbourne, because of the cuisine,
the service and the atmosphere. It doesn't hurt that the owners are also heavily
into both local and international philanthropic efforts, most recently raising
money for the earthquake victims in Szechuan Province. Enjoy!! |
